building a cheap gaming pc?
I’m building a really cheap gaming rig ($450 cheap) and I need suggestions on parts and where to get them. My requirements are: Asus P5N-D motherboard, <2GB ram, quad-core CPU, FireWire 800, and graphics card must have VGA and HDMI. I have a DVD drive and a hard drive. eSATA is preferable but not a must. I need suggestions for online retailers. Thanks.
You get what you pay for… and $450 gaming pc is like saying my 1992 ford escort race car.
And pimpmypc doesnt have a clue about building a pc if he did he would know the motherboard your using is an intel not amd
1) AMD processors are junk they dont even make good fishing weights. They have overheating problems which means more expensive parts to keep them cool. Their performances isnt anything like an equalivent generation intel. a quad core AMD is = dual core intel from my experience.
2) on board graphics and gaming dont go togather either especially when you go with only 1-2 GB of memory.
3) 2 gigs of memory will run most games from last year( though your card probably wont) but they wont be impressive and expect alot of waiting on lag ( i suggest a good book or movie club while you wait)

If you want a decent gaming pc go
*at least 500 watt power supply
* i would go quad core.( you can get a cheaper one of 2.5 ghz for about $150-200)
*at least 4 GB of ram. the lower latancy the better.
* 1 GB geforce 9xxxx series or better ( and they make adapters to adapt from the card to your monitor)
And its not he best online pc store… its the ONLY online pc store … newegg.com its where anyone that knows anything about building pcs go.
Look your board up on newegg and under the spec for it then shop accordingly to make sure all your parts fit the board. Video cards are cheap and for gaming they are probably the most important piece of hardware. so dont get a crap one. you can get a really good one for less than $100.
